Sometime ago, I warned you that we were going to be moving to another part of town, and leaving our current community ("The Esplanade") for something a bit more quaint. Well, it's finally happened !
After weeks of searching for a new home, and exploring unknown neigbourhoods in San Jose, we finally settled on Willow Glen. Willow Glen is a charming San Jose neighbourhood, situated just southwest of downtown SJ (about 3 miles from where we live now). It's about a 100 years old ( :) ), and has this main street called Lincoln Avenue (referred to the locals simply as, "The Avenue"), which has a number of nice restaurants, cafes, wine bars, and the ubiquitous Starbucks and Peet's Coffee (a bay area institution, which makes better coffee than Starbuck IMHO).
We've already had dinner & a couple of brunches there to get a feel for the neighbourhood: John's XLNT Foods is a great little mediterrenean place (greek/italian) which has outdoor side walk seating, has nice bubbly white wines and a great tasting menu. Bill's is also a local institution, and serves a mean breakfast, as well as some of the best calamari in town ! What's nice about Bill's is their out door sitting, perfect for sunny San Jose weather !
In any case, our new apartment is in a community called Hidden Willows. The name is appropriate, as it's nestled in a beautifully landscaped environment, with old willow trees, flower beds everywhere, a nice sparkling pool (heated) and a jacuzzi, as well as a spa (me like....).
The nice thing about our new place is the outdoor patio. Folks who visited us in our fantastic place at the Esplanade all know what was missing there: a nice outdoor patio to hang out and have dinner, bbq's, or chill out and read a book. Sure we had communal areas, but nothing beats the privacy of your own so called "back yard" ;-). In any case, I digress; the patio is large, big enough to put a full sized gas grill, a table, 4 chairs and still have a bit of space. It's not as big as the terrace we had in our flat in Newtown (Sydney), but it'll do the trick !
Otherwise, it's your typical US style apartment: 2 bedrooms, living, open plan kitchen - 1000+ sq feet (about 96 sq meters), so a bit smaller than our town home currently which is 1200 sqft (111 sq meters). Carpet through out. We're near the pool at the sauna/jacuzzi... so it'll be a short walk to go for a swim in the summer and a dip with champagne in the winter (Ma, don't forget to bring your swim suit !).
We gave our notice today, and we can move in as of October 31. We're going to hire professional movers - as Max is pretty busy with her mid - terms and school (she's studying like crazy), and I'm slated to travel a fair bit towards the end of the month (South Carolina potentially on Nov 1st, and Atlanta from Nov 6-9).
That's the news for now !
