BBC NEWS | Europe | Suburban gangs defy French police
Ok this is getting worriesome. BBC News reports an interesting article on the ongoing warfare between French police and Paris surburban gangs. When Max and I left France last year, we were not too surprised to see a slew of riots after a couple of arab kids died running away from the Police in a suburb of Paris.
Ever since then, things have not been getting any better. It would seem that France's hard core 0 tolerance policy is not providing any sound results.
This reminds me of a movie that we saw last year, that's recently come out in the US: District 13 (or, Banlieue 13, in French). This is a really good study/action flick of what the suburbs of France could become (in 2013) if the French gov't doesn't do something soon. It's produced by Luc Besson, who created Nikita, The Professional, and 5th Element, so it's well funded. I recommend you see it to get a feel for what hopefully will never come to be (and get a kick out of some awesome action).
